On January 2, the 33rd Seoul Music Awards took place to commemorate yet another incredible year in K-pop. This year, there was a twist: the ceremony was held at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, rather than in South Korea for the first time.
NCT Dream won the Daesang (grand award) this year, while other K-pop idol groups took up the Bonsang (primary prize).
Following the successful conclusion of the Seoul Music Awards on this particular day, numerous internet groups expressed interest in the list of previous Daesang winners.
The well-deserved grand prize has been awarded to many great artists since 2009, but two in particular stand out.
The Seoul Music Awards have been subject to criticism and have even been dubbed the “Seoul SM Music Awards” due to the fact that SM Entertainment often produces the majority of the Daesang (grand prize) winners. This year’s winner, NCT DREAM from SM, followed the same approach.
However, Psy and BTS have been outstanding winners in spite of this trend. With his global smash “Gangnam Style,” Psy won the Daesang in 2012. BTS won repeatedly from 2017 to 2020, sharing the prize with Taeyeon of SM in 2019. In the midst of SM artists’ domination, these two performers stand out for their accomplishments.
Korean internet users are impressed by Psy and BTS’s victory against SM musicians in winning the Daesang trophy after viewing the list of winners.Psy and BTS’s victory in Daesang at the Seoul “SM” Music Awards thrilled K-netizens.
