The third “Venom” film from Sony Pictures has been delayed until November 8, 2024, meaning that Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom will no longer be dominating the summer movie season.
On the same day that SAG-AFTRA accepted a provisional agreement to end the 118-day actors’ strike, the news was made.
The release date of the third episode in the “Venom” series—which still has no title—was initially scheduled for July 12, 2024. Kelly Marcel is directing the forthcoming superhero movie based on a screenplay she created. Marcel produced and wrote the first two “Venom” films. In addition to producing “Venom 3,” Marcel and Hardy worked on the story with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker.
The first two comic book tentpoles directed by Hardy, “Venom” (2018) and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021), both debuted in early October. Ruben Fleischer’s first “Venom” movie brought in $856 million at the box office globally, while Andy Serkis’ “Let There Be Carnage” had a decline during the epidemic but still managed to bring in $502 million. Interestingly, “Let There Be Carnage” made a $90 million debut in the United States, while “Venom” made a $80 million start in non-pandemic situations.
During CinemaCon in 2022, Sony confirmed that a third film in the Tom Hardy-led franchise was in the works. The plot of the threequel has been kept a secret, with the exception of Hardy’s reappearance as the deadly protector Venom. Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom were last seen in a credits sequence in the 2021 film “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” However, it’s unknown which characters from Sony’s Marvel Universe—which features, among others, Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, and Madame Web—will make an appearance in “Venom 3.”
