Samsung provided a preview of the One UI 7 update at the Samsung Developer Conference today. It can also be confirmed that we will be able to try it on Android 15 when the Samsung Galaxy S25 launches early next year.
According to Samsung Vice President Sally Hyseoon Jeong, the operating system update will arrive on the next Samsung Galaxy S phone in 2025. She didn’t specifically mention the name Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, but considering that January 2025 is one year from our review of the Samsung Galaxy S24, it’s safe to assume that One UI 7 will be released alongside the Galaxy S25 series.
In fact, there was a huge slide with the words One UI 7 “To be released next year with the new Galaxy.” If the company follows its usual release pattern, you can assume that this means the Samsung Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra.
How to get Samsung’s One UI 7 sooner
Want to experience Samsung’s new version of the mobile operating system sooner? You know many of you are eager to update your Samsung devices to One UI 7 and Android 15, but there is a way to predict Samsung’s timeline.
According to Samsung’s Hyseoon Jeong, the beta version of One UI 7 is expected to be released by the end of the year. It should be available for all current Samsung Galaxy devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6.
No official timeline has been announced for the One UI 7 beta beyond “before the end of the year.” See you in the next three months. Given Samsung’s eagerness to attract AI developers to its AI-centric ecosystem, this is expected to happen sooner rather than later, especially with the Samsung Galaxy S25 due for release at the end of January.
Samsung’s One UI 7 will focus heavily on AI
Samsung is positioning One UI 7 as a competitor to Apple Intelligence, offering a smarter, more context-aware interface for its phones and tablets.
Samsung’s developer conference preview was a bit vague. It didn’t go into details about the alleged design of One UI 7, such as the alleged Gallery app redesign. In fact, there were no official screenshots of One UI 7 in the slides.
However, Samsung set three goals for the update, promising that One UI 7 users will experience a simple, effective and emotional refresh. There is also a strong focus on user personalization, highlighting the interface optimization and customization possibilities provided by Good Lock from Samsung’s research lab.
Samsung’s One UI 7 Roadmap: “AI for Everyone”
At the Samsung Developer Conference, the company talked a lot about on-device and cloud-based AI, and seven years of updates for its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. There was also a lot of time spent on privacy and security, which Apple has done well when marketing its iPhone and iOS software updates. Again, details are scarce, but expect to see a lot of mention of Samsung Knox at the Samsung Galaxy S25 launch event.
But one area where Samsung’s Galaxy AI has an advantage over Apple’s is device compatibility across the entire hardware portfolio. So far, Apple’s intelligence has been fairly limited (and has yet to advance beyond developer beta, technically). The company’s smartphones include the iPhone 16 series and two iPhone 15 Pro smartphones.
This is in line with Samsung’s motto of “AI for everyone.” So while the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra launching next year may be new and exciting, if you own a current Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet, you won’t necessarily be left behind.
