Samsung Electronics has announced a major upgrade to its robust security platform for Galaxy devices. Building on existing security measures such as Knox, Secure Folder, and Samsung Pass, the South Korean giant has introduced two new features to further protect user data- Quick Share Private Sharing and Samsung Cloud Enhanced Data Protection. These new features are aimed at giving users more control over their data and ensuring its security.
Quick Share Private Sharing is a newly added mode within Samsung’s Quick Share feature. In this mode, users can securely share files between Samsung devices, sharing up to 20 files and up to 200MB per transfer. Key features include setting an expiration timer for shared files and restricting access to specific contacts. Files shared in this mode are only visible in read-only format, preventing further sharing and blocking screenshots.
Samsung uses blockchain-based encryption technology to protect these files, but this feature is currently limited to Samsung devices and certain file types such as audio, documents, images, and videos.
In addition to Quick Share, Samsung has introduced enhanced data protection for Samsung Cloud starting with the Galaxy S24 series. This feature ensures that all backup and sync data is end-to-end encrypted, meaning that data can only be decrypted on the original Samsung device. This enhancement provides robust security even if the server storing your data is compromised. Users can enable this feature through their device settings and receive a recovery code to regain access to their account if necessary.
