The present Doodle observes Saudi Arabia’s National Day, referred to in local Arabic as Al-Yaom-ul-Watany, which honors the unification of the Saudi Kingdom on this day in 1932.
Every year, September 23 is an opportunity for Saudi citizens to celebrate their cultural heritage and look toward what’s to come. During public day festivities, streets all through the nation are soaked with green and white—the colors of the Saudi banner portrayed in the Doodle work of art. Residents can be seen enhanced in these symbolic colors and showing the national flag on vehicles and private homes.
In 2014, Jeddah city officials celebrated National Day with a divulging of a 561-foot flagpole which keeps on flying the Saudi flag as the tallest flagpole on the world!
Happy National Day, Saudi Arabia!
