‘Scream 7’ Officially Scheduled for February 2026 Release

Ghostface will kill again.

After production delays, creative restructuring and reorganization, the latest installment of the long-running horror series, Scream 7, will finally hit theaters on February 27, 2026. The announcement was made via social media by Neve Campbell, who returns to the series after missing the sixth installment due to salary issues, and series creator and sequel director Kevin Williamson. The film has its own date, and no other major premieres are scheduled before the Scream sequel. The following weekend, Disney and Pixar’s ‘The Cat in the Hat ‘and ‘Hoppers’ will hit theaters, both aimed at family audiences.

Off-screen, drama has been continuing around Scream 7 since the project was announced. Melissa Barrera, who starred in the first two films, was fired from the sequel last year for her comments on social media about the war between Israel and Hamas. Barrera’s co-star Jenna Ortega was forced to drop out due to her filming schedule for the Netflix series Wednesday. And Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon left the project in December 2023, citing his “a dream job that turned into a nightmare.” Williamson was named director as his replacement. Production was also stalled by strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the WGA.

Paramount Pictures will distribute the film, with Spyglass Media producing. After a lull following the release of Scream 4 in 2011, the series was successfully rebooted with Scream in 2022 and Scream VI in 2023, both directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Guy Busick, a staple of the series reboots, will write Scream 7. James Vanderbilt, William Sherak and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment will produce, with Radio Silence serving as executive producers.
