Snap releases an AI chatbot utilising OpenAI’s GPT

My AI, an OpenAI-powered chatbot, was introduced to Snapchat+ subscribers on Monday by Snap.

In June, Snapchat+ was made available for $3.99 per month.

The chatbot is built on OpenAI ChatGPT technology, which is also the foundation of Microsoft’s Bing AI, according to The Verge. According to a press release from Snap, it can suggest recipes, gift ideas, and weekend plans. The “experimental feature”‘s name and chat background can be changed by users.

In a press release, Snap cautioned that its My AI chatbot “can be tricked into saying just about anything” in reference to well-documented incidents involving Bing’s OpenAI-based chatbot.

“Please be aware of its many deficiencies and sorry in advance!”

On the company’s earnings call for the fourth quarter, founder and CEO Evan Spiegel discussed the transformative potential of AI technology. During recent earnings calls, executives from other businesses like Nvidia and Meta have made similar statements.

Spiegel, in an interview with The Verge, shared a similar upbeat outlook. He stated, “The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day.”

Snap’s new AI chatbot comes just weeks after AI-backed releases from Microsoft and Google. Google recently unveiled a conversational AI product called Bard that it developed internally.
