Suits continues to be a hugely successful streaming acquisition on Netflix, and the successful courtroom drama is finally coming to TV. His prime-time programming service MyNetwork TV made its television debut this fall when it began off-network broadcasts of “Suits.”
The pickup was announced Monday by Frank Chicha, executive vice president of programming for Fox Television Stations. “It’s become increasingly more difficult, if not impossible, to launch obscure product on broadcast TV. ‘Suits’ is arguably the most buzzworthy scripted series of the last half decade, and MyNet looks forward to amplifying its success by introducing it to the broadcast television audience. And we’re discussing some fun ways to do just that. ”
Created by Aaron Korsh, SUITS originally aired for nine seasons (and 134 episodes) between 2011 and 2019 on USA Network. NBCUniversal Syndication Studios distributes the series for broadcast. It is believed that this is the first time a series began as a cable television original series and was first syndicated for streaming before broadcast.
“With its witty dialogue, engaging plots and enjoyable characters, ‘Suits’ has proven its popularity in the streaming space, and is the right show at the right time to engage linear TV audiences across the country,” said Sean O’Boyle, exec VP and national syndication sales manager, NBCUniversal Syndication Studios. “We are thrilled to continue our successful partnership with MyNet in bringing ‘Suits’ to broadcast television.”
“Suits” stars Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman, Katherine Heigl, and Meghan Markle. The show is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studios Group, and is executive produced by Aaron Korsh. Hypnotic’s Doug Liman, David Bartis, and Gene Klein will also serve as executive producers.
According to Nielsen, in 2023 “Suits” broke the record for annual hours watched previously held by “The Office.” The legal drama’s total viewing time will reach 57.7 billion minutes in 2023, slightly surpassing the 57.1 billion minutes watched by The Office in 2020.
Following the streaming success of Suits, a pilot for the spinoff has begun in Los Angeles and is currently in production at NBC, starring Stephen Amell, Josh McDermitt, and Lex Scott Davis.
