With her Grammy for album of the year for 2022, “Midnights,” Taylor Swift became the artist with the most wins in the coveted category on Sunday, taking home her fourth award.
Swift tied with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon before taking home the coveted award; the three had each won album of the year three times before. Her albums “Fearless” from 2009, “1989” from 2015, and “Folklore” from 2021 won her golden gramophones for album of the year.
Swift stated, “I would love to tell you that this is the best moment in my life but I feel this happy when I finish a song or when I crack the code to a bridge that I love,” after she was shocked and joyfully collected the award on Sunday from surprise presenter Celine Dion.
“For me the award is the work. All I want to do is keep being able to do this. I love it so much. It makes me so happy.”
In addition, Swift extended her appreciation to producer Jack Antonoff, referring to him as a “once in a generation producer” and one of her “best friends.” The two worked together on Swift’s earlier albums, including “Midnights.”
She also gave thanks to artist Lana Del Rey, who worked with Swift on the album’s track “Snow on the Beach.”
Regarding Del Rey, Swift remarked, “I think she’s a legacy artist, a legend in her prime right now.”
With six nominations overall, the “Style” singer is tied with Barbra Streisand for the most ever received by a female artist in the album of the year category.
Swift’s victory completes an already memorable evening. Earlier in the ceremony, she revealed that her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” will be released in April.
According to the music charting website at the time, Swift’s album “Midnights” premiered to enormous success in October 2022 when it simultaneously captured all ten top ten places on the Billboard Hot 100 with tunes from the album.
This year, Swift received six Grammy nominations: pop solo performance, pop duo/group performance, album of the year, song of the year, record of the year, and pop vocal album.
She had also won best pop vocal album for “Midnights” earlier in the evening.
