Tesla Announces Performance Mode Upgrade for Model 3 and Y

Tesla appears to be preparing to introduce a new performance mode for the Model 3 and Model Y, as seen in the code of a recent firmware update.

On Sunday, Tesla Code Detective Green published the only post on a “soft performance limit” option for the Model 3 and Model Y, which was discovered in the current firmware and reportedly sits at 110 kW and 160 kW, respectively. The discovery seems to indicate that Tesla is considering introducing a paid upgrade to the software-locked mode, which would allow owners to upgrade and access the full range of the battery.

Some have also noted that the move could be due to regulations in certain markets, such as Singapore, where the automaker recently launched a Model 3 RWD 110 configuration to accommodate an exception to the maximum performance allowed for electric vehicles (EVs) below 110 kW.

Nevertheless, Tesla has recently hinted that it may start offering paid performance upgrades for its vehicles.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk announced future plans for the Model Y to offer software-controlled performance upgrades after Tesla launched a new base configuration with long-range front-wheel drive replacing the previous low-range setting. hinted at the plan.

Musk also said the software upgrade will cost about $1,500 to $2,000 and will extend range by an additional 40 to 60 miles, bringing some models on par with the new Long Range trim.

It’s not entirely clear when Tesla will start offering the aforementioned “soft performance limit,” but Green is known for noticing things before they’re officially released.

Additionally, Mr. Green recently noticed that within the code of his 2024.14.3 software update he included something like Tesla’s hands-free voice assistant. According to the article, this assistant should be automatically activated by what hackers call a “wakeword,” meaning the car will always wait for the given word.

In January, Mr. Green announced future vehicle features using code found in the 2023.44.30.8 update, including a “mechanical horn” steering wheel and fork kit that will be available on S and X models. gave an insight about.
