Veteran Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20I cricket after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados on June 29, beating South Africa by seven runs in the final.
Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India remained unbeaten throughout the 2024 T20 World Cup. In the group stage, the Men in Blue finished first in Group A. In the Super 8 round, Rohit-led team defeated all three opponents to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, the Men in Blue avenged their defeat to England in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval. Rohit’s team then defeated the Proteas in a thrilling grand final to become the first team to win an ICC T20I title unbeaten.
Rohit also became only the second Indian captain after the legendary MS Dhoni to win the ICC T20 World Cup trophy, thus ending India’s 11-year long ICC Cup drought.
