Peacock said on Friday that, among many other films, The Black Phone and Five Nights at Freddy’s will be joining The Exorcist: Believer, the first of a new trilogy of films based on the 1973 horror classic The Exorcist, which will launch exclusively on the platform on December 1.
Believer, a Blumhouse and Universal production, introduces viewers to Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.), who has been raising their daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) by himself since his pregnant wife died in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago. But when Angela goes missing in the woods with her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum), and then returns three days later, having forgotten everything that happened to them, it sets off a series of events that will make Victor face the lowest point of evil and, in his fear and desperation, look for the only person alive who has seen anything similar before: Chris MacNeil.
Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn plays MacNeil again, the woman whose life had been forever altered fifty years before when her daughter Regan was taken from her. Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Jennifer Nettles (Harriet), and Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon) complete the cast. After being released in October, the movie made approximately $133 million in total revenue globally.
David Gordon Green, who also directed Halloween, another legendary horror franchise, is the film’s director. The screenplay was written by Green and Peter Sattler, based on a plot by Scott Teems, Danny McBride, and Green that used William Peter Blatty’s characters as inspiration. David Robinson and James G. Robinson from Morgan Creek Entertainment and Jason Blum from Blumhouse were among the producers. McBride, Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek, and Atilla Yücer are executive producers.
The Exorcist: Deceiver, the next movie in the series, is slated to open in theatres on April 18, 2025.
