The timing couldn’t have been more perfect: this week’s eerie “Harry Potter”-themed episode of “The Masked Singer” coincided with Halloween, so it seemed fitting that Tyler Posey, star of “Teen Wolf,” would be the next well-known person to take off their mask in Season 10.
After The Police performed “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” this week, Posey’s identity as Hawk was made public. Posey told Variety, “I have this checklist of random weird things that you only get to experience once in a lifetime,” Posey told Variety. “And this fit right in with that. This is just a fun, interesting, random, bizarre experience that I was just completely down to do. It’s also challenging. I’ve always been sort of awkward when it comes to choreographed dancing. And claustrophobia is a little weird for me. The whole experience was something that I really wanted to kind of push myself through, and give it my all.”
Despite being mainly within the range, nobody got it exactly this time. He chose Cole Sprouse, Ken Jeong. Chad Michael Murray was the guess made by Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg. Ryan Phillippe is named by Robin Thicke. Billie Joe Armstrong was accompanied by Nicole Scherzinger.
“I thought the producers did a pretty good job at keeping me sort of vague with the hint,” he said. “I was flattered with who they guessed. There were a lot of idols of mine in those guesses like Billie Joe Armstrong and Pete Wentz. I thought that was really sweet that they thought that I could have been one of them.”
Tiki and Hawk were the two singers that received the fewest votes, and they were going to compete in a smackdown to see who could remove their masks. The two contestants each sang a rendition of Lady Gaga’s song “Monster.” Hawk revealed his identity, and Tiki moved on to the following week.
Posey stated that if he had gone on, he might have performed a Backstreet Boys song in the future.
“I was really excited to have myself be exposed finally so I can spill the beans with all my friends and be like, ‘guess what I’ve been doing the past few months.’ Even though I wish that I went further, I’m ready to tell everybody,” Posey added.
Currently, the list of Season 10 unmasked celebs includes Tyler Posey as Hawk, Billie Jean King as Royal Hen, Michael Rapaport as Pickle, Tom Sandoval as Diver, Anthony Anderson as Rubber Ducky, and one-time special guest Demi Lovato as Anonymouse.
The “Harry Potter Night” theme for this week followed Sea Queen, Hawk, Husky, and Tiki as they were each given a Hogwarts house—Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin—by means of the Sorting Hat. Then, each competitor sang a song that related to the theme of the week’s episode, such as “Love Potion No. 9” or “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.” Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, the Flamingo from Season 2 who began the show with a rendition of “I Put a Spell On You,” also made an appearance as a guest star in this episode.
Group B was in its second week, and Sea Queen was the new Wildcard contestant. (S’more, Cow, and Gazelle will compete in the Group A Finals.)
This season of “The Masked Singer,” there is a change in format: three groups are followed by episodes from the Battle Royale semifinal. The “Ding Dong Keep It On Bell” is returned in the Battle Royale semi-final episodes, where the judges can decide to save one competitor from elimination and advance them straight to the conclusion. The season also features the return of Wild Card contestants, with one Wild Card introduced to each group.
A life-size ‘S’More’ with new costumes such as ‘Donut’, ‘Anteater’, ‘Hawk’, ‘Hibiscus’, ‘Diver’, ‘Gazelle, ‘Royal Hen’, ‘Husky’, ‘Tiki, ‘Pickle, ‘Rubber Ducky’, ‘Candelabra, ‘Cow, ‘Sea Queen Celebrities who have been unmasked since the show’s inception are also making a comeback to commemorate its 10th season. As per the show, the competitors of Season 10 “boast a combined 40 medals, 33 Grammy nominations, seven hall of fame awards, three lifetime achievement awards and over 50 tattoos.”
A tribute to Elton John, “Trolls Night,” which is connected to the November release of DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls Band Together,” “Harry Potter Night,” which airs the week of Halloween, “NFL Night,” “One Hit Wonders,” “Disco,” “2000s Night,” “I Wanna Rock,” and “Soundtrack of My Life” are just a few of the themed episodes for the season. Nick Cannon, the presenter, and panellists Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, and Robin Thicke are all returning for Season 10.
The other performances from this week’s episode were as follows:
TIKI
Song: “Magic,” by Pilot
Panel guesses: Dave Grohl, Jon Bon Jovi, Roger Daltry, Robert Plant
Harry Potter house clue: Gryffindor. “You gotta be brave to be front and center on the types of stages that I command.”
Package voiceover: “Making my debut last week was just beachy. And now, getting to perform again on Harry Potter night feels pretty fitting, because I’ve really found the magic in my life these days. There comes a time in every rockin’ tropical cocktail’s life where they need to decide what comes next. Do you let yourself get watered down, or do you change with the tides? I decided to put the hard partying lifestyle on the back burner and my family on tap. I used to be up every night partying until 6 a.m. Now that’s what time my alarm goes off to take my kid to school. It makes me emotional, just thinking about it. I definitely don’t want tonight to be my last call. So when I get out there on stage, you’re going to see that this Tiki is still on the rocks!”
Previous song: “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” by Elton John
Previous panel guesses: John Stamos, David Lee Roth, Robert Plant
HUSKY
Song: “Superfreak,” by Rick James
Panel guesses: Tank, Ginuwine, Brian McKnight
Harry Potter house clue: Hufflepuff. “I actually had a feeling I’d be the Hufflepuff. Because of my connection to Mr. Puff himself, P Diddy.”
Package voiceover: “I showed everyone last week, this dog can still hunt. But just like Harry Potter growing up, I was also an underestimated wizard. As a young pup, I was picked on a lot. Other kids always giving me a hard time and calling me skinny. So I retreated. Started working out on my magical arts and evolved from a skinny boy to a husky man. Soon, all those old naysayers saw my rise to the top dog. But, confession. Despite all the love, and inspiring some lovemaking, to this day I still don’t feel like I’ve made it. In my head, I’m just that little puppy with a dream trying to make something out of himself. And now I’m here, to prove that I believe in me enough to do anything, like winning ‘The Masked Singer.’”
Previous song: “Benny and the Jets,” by Elton John
Previous panel guesses: Babyface, Terrence Howard, Morris Chestnut
HAWK
Song: “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” by The Police
Panel guesses: Ryan Phillippe, Andrew Garfield, Billie Joe Armstrong
Harry Potter house clue: Ravenclaw: “It makes a lot of sense that I am Ravenclaw. Because I was a good student. Or at least you saw me on TV pretending to be.”
Package voiceover: “I can’t believe I came out on top in that epic battle of the birds. Getting to let loose felt really magical. And these days, I try to find the magic wherever I can. Not too long ago, someone close to me lost their battle with cancer. She was my support system and my best friend. After she passed, nothing seemed to matter. I sunk into a deep well of loneliness and depression. I realized she wouldn’t want me to live my life this way. So I finally opened up about my feelings and got help. I’ve learned that while the pain will never go away, it lessens. And now I hope to inspire others that no matter how dark things may get, there’s always a way to find some light again.”
Previous song: “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting),” by Elton John
Previous panel guesses: Cole Sprouse, Pete Wentz, Corey Feldman, Austin Butler
SEA QUEEN (WILDCARD)
Song: “Love Potion No. 9,” by The Searchers
Panel guesses: Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lewis
Harry Potter house clue: Slytherin. “Slytherin makes sense for me. I’ve always been clever in my career. You’ll never know what genre I’m in next.”
Package voiceover: “When I got asked to appear as Sea Queen on Harry Potter night as a wildcard, I said great. Sign me up. Because I’ve always been a bit of a wild card in life. I got my first job giving museum tours at 14. But, I got fired. And then, because I was a smart cookie, my mom got me into boarding school. But I got kicked out. All the wild twists and turns made me the triple threat that I am today. Comedy, writing, singing, I’ve done it all. And these days, I’m preparing for a new tour! Oh, and dressing up in a giant costume, getting ready to put you all under my spell. Should we do this thing?”
