HBO’s “House of the Dragon” Season 2 premieres in June.
During an interview at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom conference on Monday, J.B. Perrette, the chief of Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming and gaming division, disclosed the launch month for the second season of the “Game of Thrones” spinoff.
Even though the executive did not reveal the exact date of the “House of the Dragon” Season 2 premiere, this is the most information that has been made public about the release window thus far. In November, HBO CEO Casey Bloys hinted at a “early summer” date, and on the company’s Q4 earnings call on February 23, CEO David Zaslav of Warner Bros. Discovery said “next quarter.”
“House of the Dragon,” which is based on “Fire & Blood,” a book by George R.R. Martin, chronicles the Targaryen dynasty in the made-up continent of Westeros. It takes place approximately 100 years after the Targaryens united the Seven Kingdoms and nearly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”
Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham are among the returning cast members of “House of the Dragon” Season 2. Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, and Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong are the previously confirmed newcomers.
“House of the Dragon” broadcast its 10-episode first season from August 21 to October 23, 2022. Just one week after its series premiere, which brought in HBO record-breaking ratings, it was renewed for a second season.
Filming for “House of the Dragon” Season 2 began on April 11, 2023, at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios. Because screenplays were finished before filming started, the Writers Guild of America strike (which started on May 2 and lasted until September 27) and the SAG-AFTRA strike (which started on July 14) had no impact on the filming process.
