EaseMyTrip, the online ticket booking platform, has announced its entry into the electric bus manufacturing sector with the launch of a new subsidiary, Easy Green Mobility. In an official stock exchange filing, the company revealed that Easy Green Mobility will focus on producing electric buses, while another EaseMyTrip subsidiary, YoloBus, will handle operations.
EaseMyTrip plans to invest ₹200 crore over the next 2-3 years in research and development, product creation, and the establishment of a manufacturing facility. The electric bus market in India is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24% between 2024 and 2030, and EaseMyTrip aims to seize this opportunity.
The company’s statement highlighted that the creation of Easy Green Mobility is in line with its strategy to tap into the growing electric vehicle (EV) sector in India. Rikant Pittie, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, pointed out that demand for electric buses could rise to between 125,000 and 150,000 units annually within a decade. He emphasized that this development presents a major opportunity to increase supply through local manufacturing and support the “Make-In-India” initiative.
Pittie further explained that the company’s expansion into the electric bus market aligns with its plan to diversify beyond its core air travel business. He sees this move as crucial to establishing a solid presence in the rapidly growing EV and e-mobility markets.
He also praised the Indian government’s efforts to promote electric buses through the FAME scheme, state-level policies, and the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. He described Easy Green Mobility as a way to contribute to India’s mission of becoming a global leader in green transportation.
EaseMyTrip will focus on producing electric buses equipped with cutting-edge technology and energy-efficient battery systems capable of covering long distances on a single charge. This initiative is aimed at strengthening the company’s position in urban transportation, where demand for electric buses is growing both domestically and internationally.
Initially, Easy Green Mobility’s production plant will have the capacity to manufacture 4,000 to 5,000 buses, with plans to scale up in the future. Through YoloBus, which operates across 250 routes in India, EaseMyTrip seeks to accelerate the country’s transition to zero-carbon mobility. By 2027-28, the company intends to operate more than 2,000 electric buses across India.
The company added that it will leverage EaseMyTrip’s strong brand presence and industry experience to establish a key role in the evolving electric vehicle market.
