There is a possibility that Apple will unveil a new smart display device in Next year

Apple has reportedly been developing its smart home product line for quite some time, and now fresh information suggests that the tech giant is gearing up to launch a new tabletop smart display device with advanced smart home capabilities next year. According to sources, this device will be part of a series, with a more premium variant featuring a robotic limb, although the launch date for this higher-end version remains uncertain. Both devices are expected to incorporate Apple’s AI-driven technology.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, as stated in his Power On newsletter, Apple aims to make a significant impact in the smart home sector with these upcoming products. While the company already has the HomePod in this space, it hasn’t achieved widespread success. To revamp its smart home offering, Apple is reportedly planning to utilize robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and a brand-new operating system.

The report suggests that Apple is developing two tabletop smart display devices. The more expensive model will come with a robotic limb, though its specific function is currently unknown. This device is also expected to have a sizable display similar to an iPad.

The report sheds more light on the lower-end version, which will be equipped with a smart display that supports FaceTime calls and can control home appliances. Internally, this device carries the code name J595. It’s still unclear if this version will feature a robotic element.

Gurman hints that the launch of the first device could take place next year, though it’s uncertain if it will be released in early 2025 or later that year. The estimated price is expected to be around $1,000 (approximately Rs. 83,740). One of the most intriguing aspects is that Apple is said to be developing a new operating system, dubbed “homeOS,” for these smart home devices. This OS will likely be based on tvOS, which currently powers the Apple TV.

Additionally, these smart home devices with integrated displays are anticipated to feature Apple Intelligence, though details on how AI will be incorporated remain scarce. The lower-end model is expected to support applications like Calendar, Notes, and Home, serving as a central hub for managing various smart home appliances. This move signals Apple’s intent to strengthen its presence in the smart home market with a comprehensive and sophisticated range of products.
