According to report, latest Power On newsletter that Siri will finally be improved in spring 2025, when Apple makes its AI system, Apple Intelligence, available to everyone through the iOS 18.4 update. This is more specific than Apple has been in the past, only stating for now that the most important AI features will be available next year.
Apple regularly distributes new features to its operating system incrementally, in point updates. For example, Siri (via Apple Intelligence) could gain the ability to do a variety of things on your behalf, such as finding your ID in the Photos app’s 20,000 photo library and copying and pasting your driver’s license number to fill it in. Online forms, but perhaps AI-powered emoji generation and writing assistance aren’t ready yet. Gurman didn’t comment on this directly, but it’s something to keep in mind.
As the feature starts to be integrated into iOS 18 betas later this year and the release of 18.4 draws nearer, it should become clearer which is first.
Meanwhile, features expected in the fall include ChatGPT integration, a new Siri interface that replaces the old circle graphic with a pulsating rainbow around the inside of the screen frame, and deep product knowledge that will allow Siri to provide basic tech support.
In the long term, Apple’s AI plans seem to include AirPods with the occasionally rumored embedded camera. A rumor from supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last week, for example, said it would have an infrared sensor that works in conjunction with vision. The Pro would be used for hand gestures and motion recognition.
Gurman describes something similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses. For example, the AI could process images from the glasses to describe things around you or help you navigate while walking. These new AirPods Pro could still be two generations away, he writes.
