On July 24, 2026, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will return to theaters.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton’s untitled Columbia Pictures production will make its premiere soon after “Avengers: Doomsday,” which opens on May 1, 2026. Just two months after “Avengers: Endgame,” “Spider-Man: Far From Home” was also released, and the third Spidey movie brought in over $1 billion worldwide.
Holland stated during a Tuesday night interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that work on his fourth “Spider-Man” film will start in the middle of 2025.
“Next summer, we start shooting. Everything’s good to go — we’re nearly there,” Holland said. “Super exciting. I can’t wait!”
Holland recently stated that he had read a draft of the screenplay for his fourth “Spider-Man” film and that “it needs work, but the writers are doing a great job” in an interview with the “Rich Roll Podcast.”
“One of the things is that, with Marvel, your film is a small cog in a large machine,” Holland said about the “Spider-Man 4” development. “That machine has got to keep running. You have to make sure you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture. That’s one of the challenges we’re facing. The time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the people we have working on it now.” It’s not yet clear if Zendaya will return to her role as MJ.
In three stand-alone films directed by Jon Watts, Holland portrayed Peter Parker: “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017), “Spider-Man: Far From Home” (2019), and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021).
In September, Variety announced that Destin Daniel Cretton, director of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” will helm the follow-up, succeeding trilogy director Watts. Other credits for Cretton include “Short Term 12” from 2013, “The Glass Castle” from 2017, and “Just Mercy” from 2019. Prior to his departure in November 2023, he was slated to helm the now-canceled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” The movie was eventually retitled “Avengers: Doomsday.” Yahya Abdul Matteen II will star in the upcoming “Wonder Man” miniseries, which Cretton co-created while remaining a member of the Marvel family. Cretton has also been working on a follow-up to “Shang-Chi,” but according to a person familiar with the project, the studio’s top focus right now is “Spider-Man 4.”
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment have occasionally had a turbulent relationship. For a short time in late 2019, the two entities were unable to agree on the character’s future in the MCU, and their agreement was temporarily canceled. Shortly after, they reached an agreement, and then the “No Way Home” crossover event brought Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, two former Spider-Men, into the MCU.
