“You really think you can fix everything I’m afraid of one night?” “One night can change everything…!” A second trailer for the animated movie Orion and the Dark, which will be on Netflix in February, has been released. Charlie Kaufman, yep, Eternal Sunshine Kaufman, wrote the script, attempting to write a children’s tale (based on the novel) about a fear of the dark. Animated by Mikros Animation (Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie) and directed by a seasoned storyboard artist for “SpongeBob” Come along on a nighttime journey with Orion and his new best pal! Orion fears heights, animals, and the deadliest danger of all: darkness.
To show Orion that fear is the only thing to be afraid of, The Dark takes him on a midnight adventure one day. With a cast that includes Angela Bassett, Colin Hanks, Natasia Demetriou, Golda Rosheuvel, Nat Faxon, Aparna Nancherla, Ike Barinholtz, Carla Gugino, and Werner Herzog as the narrator, the film stars Jacob Tremblay as Orion and Paul Walter Hauser as The Dark. This is everything to me! It appears to be going to be amazing! Wow, what a clever and entertaining idea, with some excellent vocal performances. It’s looking like a must watch cartoon movie.
Orion strikes me as being shy, quiet, and secretly crushing on someone just like any other elementary school student. Beneath his ostensibly normal façade, though, Orion is a ball of teenage angst, plagued by absurd worries that range from tumbling off a cliff to bees, dogs, the ocean, cell phone waves and even violent gutter clowns. Of all his phobias, though, the one he fears the most is the darkness, which he must face every night. In order to show Orion that there is nothing to be scared of in the dark, Dark whisks him away on a roller coaster journey around the globe when the real-life manifestation of his darkest fear pays him a visit.
Orion must choose if he can learn to accept the unknown, to give up allowing fear rule his life, and to finally appreciate the thrill of living as the odd duo draws nearer. Sean Charmatz, the director of Trolls Holiday in Harmony, “Pinky Malinky,” and a storyboard artist for “SpongeBob SquarePants,” is the director of Orion and the Dark. Based on Emma Yarlett’s book of the same name, the screenplay was written by the unique Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, I’m Thinking of Ending Things). DreamWorks Animation and Peter McCown served as producers. with Mikros Animation handling the actual animation work. Orion and the Dark will be available for viewing on Netflix beginning on February 2, 2024, which is quickly approaching. Who is going to watch this?
