With the iOS 18 update, Apple is apparently preparing to provide a few significant new features for the iPhone. The new operating system is expected to be unveiled by the Cupertino, California-based tech giant on June 10 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024. According to a recent rumor, the company may roll out customized emojis driven by artificial intelligence (AI) that appear based on the content of the message the user is sending. Additionally, users could be able to customize app icons by recoloring them to their preference.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Apple plans to release iOS 18 with a number of new iPhone features. Although a lot of these additions might make use of AI, several of them would also provide the current interface more customization options. First, regarding the AI feature, Gurman says that WWDC 24 may see the release of customized emojis.
Custom emojis powered by AI are allegedly coming to iOS 18:
AI capabilities are now a hot topic for Apple. It was previously claimed that the business would give Siri conversational capabilities driven by AI. Gurman now says that when an iPhone user types a text in a messaging app, AI features will also be visible. AI-powered personalized emojis, which would be distinct from the current emoji collection customers receive, may be included in iOS 18.
The report suggests that customized emojis can be generated automatically depending on the user’s input, providing an explanation of how the feature might operate. If a user inputs “Happy Diwali,” for example, the AI might be able to understand the meaning and choose a special emoji associated with the Indian festival. The report made no mention of any rules intended to prevent users from utilizing the feature and creating offensive emojis.
iOS 18 is rumored to have customizable app icons:
The iPhone Home Screen is rumored to receive a significant update as well. Apple may do away with the app grid that has been in place since the original iPhone and let users arrange the icons anywhere they choose. Users may also be able to change the color of app icons.
The latter might aid in organizing related apps. To make them easier to recognize, social media apps can all be made to have the same color. Users will be able to express their creativity and customize icons to suit their preferences by having the flexibility to insert icons anywhere. When Apple formally introduces iOS 18 on June 10, the iPhone may get all of these and more.
