Hyundai has unveiled the Insteroid, a gaming-inspired concept vehicle, at an exclusive event in Seoul. This bold reinterpretation of the Hyundai Inster electric compact SUV incorporates dynamic design elements and performance-focused enhancements, aimed at capturing consumer interest in the Inster lineup.
Debuting at Peaches D8NE in Seoul, the Insteroid will also be showcased at the Seoul Mobility Show from April 3 to 13. The European design team at Hyundai developed this conceptual model with the goal of redefining the boundaries of sporty electric vehicle aesthetics. Its name is a fusion of “Inster” and “Steroid,” emphasizing its muscular and aggressive stance.
Unlike the previously revealed Inster Cross, which explored off-road capability, the Insteroid takes a different path, embracing a track-focused identity with its widened body, aerodynamic upgrades including a wing spoiler and diffuser, and wheels optimized for high-performance driving. The interior features a stripped-down racing-inspired cockpit equipped with a roll cage, bucket seats, and a specialized instrument cluster, reinforcing its sporty nature. Hyundai has also integrated a distinctive sound signature to enhance the driving experience, complemented by a Beat House sound system and an interactive Message Grid display for driver engagement.
One of the key highlights is its Drift Mode, designed to offer a balance between high-performance handling and everyday usability. The vehicle’s structure employs lightweight lattice materials to improve efficiency, and its exterior showcases a soft white finish accented with bold orange highlights. The Insteroid branding extends beyond the car, as Hyundai has also designed a race suit that matches the vehicle’s aesthetic.
Aligning with Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability, the Insteroid incorporates eco-friendly materials such as 3D knit fabric made from recycled yarns. To build excitement around the concept, Hyundai provided an interactive experience at the launch event, where attendees participated in a time attack game, collecting virtual “steroid” items to upgrade the Inster into its high-performance Insteroid variant.
