Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer recently announced a groundbreaking move, revealing that previously exclusive Xbox titles will now make their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. During an insightful conversation on the Gamertag Radio podcast, Spencer expressed his vision for making Xbox games more accessible, stating that he envisions people playing Xbox titles across “many different screens.” He emphasized his opposition to the concept of “gatekeeping games,” reaffirming his commitment to inclusivity within the gaming ecosystem.
“I want players to experience the games we create and the services we offer on as many devices as possible,” Spencer explained, reiterating that while Xbox hardware remains a cornerstone of Microsoft’s gaming strategy, the focus is increasingly shifting to a “game-first, not platform-first” approach. This philosophy reflects Xbox’s growing efforts to embrace a broader, multi-platform future.
Spencer also shared that he had reached out to Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa to congratulate him on the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2. He spoke highly of Nintendo’s innovative spirit and expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with them. “I’ve always admired how Nintendo pushes boundaries, and I’m genuinely excited to support them with the games we’re working on,” Spencer remarked.
Although specific details remain under wraps, speculation is rife about which Xbox games will debut on the Switch 2. Reports suggest that titles like Halo and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 could be part of this historic expansion. The partnership builds on an already strong relationship between the two gaming giants. The original Nintendo Switch is home to several Microsoft games, including Minecraft, Ori and the Blind Forest, and its sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps. More recently, Xbox expanded its multi-platform presence by adding games like Pentiment and Grounded to its lineup of widely available titles.
Adding to the anticipation is Microsoft’s recent 10-year deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to their consoles. This agreement strongly suggests that the blockbuster franchise will likely make its debut on the Switch 2, further strengthening the collaboration between the two gaming powerhouses.
