The New York Yankees are having their best season in MLB history in 2022, off to one of their best starts ever. But it appears that they mean business because this week, ahead of the All-Star Game break, they surpassed the Los Angeles Dodgers as the betting favourites to win the World Series.
With a +400 momio at Caesars Sportsbook, the “Bronx Bombers” started the month of July as the World Series favourites, just ahead of the Dodgers at +450. According to report, the Dodgers are actually underdogs for the World Series during the regular season for the first time since July 24, 2020.
The Yankees had a strong start with a 12-1 record, but for the last two months they have been on a winning streak that has lasted. In June, they posted the best record in MLB with a 22-6 (.786) score, which was their best winning percentage in any month since September 1964.
They also have a 56-21 record, which is the best in the majors (.727). The New York club has begun July with a winning percentage of.700 or above six times in history. They previously won the World Series five times, so that’s a great sign.
According to Eric Biggio, manager of baseball operations at Caesars Sportsbook, “The Yankees becoming the new favourite was a combination of two things…performance and money.” “After every big win, it seems like it’s all Yankees futures money on the betting ticket. And how can you blame them? They definitely made it .”
The importance of the Yankees being in the World Series
At Caesars Sportsbook, the Yankees have gotten 45 World Series bets worth at least $1,000, including a $20,000 stake made early in the season on Nevada at 10-1 odds.
The New York Mets, who have 46 bets above $1,000 and have 7-1 odds to win the World Series, are the only team that did so, trailing only the Yankees, Dodgers, and Astros (+550). The Mets and Yankees receive 66 percent of the money bet on the World Series odds at Caesars Sportsbook.
The expert says “The fact that the Yankees are so good definitely increases the handle on the futures group.”
“It’s a dream scenario for bookmakers and TV audiences. Both New York teams are in contention, as are the Dodgers and Astros. Anything that’s good for ratings is probably also good for bookmakers. The Yankees are always going to get some extra money, so if we had a Yankees vs. Dodgers World Series, for example, the handle would be through the roof,” he finished.
