Xbox-exclusive players will have to wait patiently for one of the biggest games of 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3, to arrive on Microsoft systems. August saw the release of the RPG’s early access on PC, while September saw its release on the PS5. But up till now, the Xbox Series X/S version has been delayed due to technical issues.
Larian Studios, the game’s publisher and developer, pledged to release the Xbox version by the end of the year and to disclose the precise release date during The Game Awards. As promised, Larian revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available for the Xbox.
Baldur’s Gate 3 had the most nominations (eight) of any game at The Game Awards 2023, tied with Alan Wake 2. In the end, it took home six awards: Players’ Voice, Best Multiplayer Game, Best Role Playing Game, Best Performer, and the coveted Game of the Year.
The Series S had a technical problem which caused the Xbox delay. “We cannot remove the split-screen feature because we are obliged to launch with feature parity, and so continue to try and make it work,” stated Michael Douse, director of publishing at Larian, in a July letter. But Larian announced the next month that it had discovered a way to support split-screen on Series X but not Series S, following a meeting with Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
