After previously only allowing users to move chats one way, WhatsApp is now allowing users to transfer their conversation history from Android to iPhone (from iPhone to Android).
In a Facebook post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the new feature. WABetaInfo had already discovered early signs of the feature, which is now in beta.
The update addresses a long-standing WhatsApp issue: transferring chats between the two smartphone operating systems has always proved problematic. Chats can be easily transferred from one iOS device to another or from one Android device to another, but not across the two operating systems.
Apple’s existing Move to iOS software for Android is used in the transfer procedure, which only works on new or factory reset iPhones (which already helps move contacts, calendar entries, SMS messages, and more).
Select the “Move data from Android” option during iPhone setup, and then follow the procedures in the Android app. Open WhatsApp and sign in using the same phone number you used to set up the iPhone. Your previous Android chat history should now be visible.
To begin the transfer, your Android smartphone must be running Android 5 or higher, and your iPhone must be running iOS 15.5 or higher. Unfortunately, if you already have an iOS chat history, it will be overwritten by the imported Android history.
